BRGS Lawyers Named California Super Lawyers

Partners Kenneth R. Ballard, John B. Golper, Richard S. Rosenberg and Linda Miller Savitt were again named Super Lawyers in 2009 by the Journal of Law and Politics and Los Angeles Magazine. Senior counsel Christine Hoeffner was also named Super Lawyer. Linda Savitt also received recognition as one of the Top 50 Female Lawyers in Southern California.

Partner Matthew T. Wakefield , Esq., has recently been named to the list of Top One Hundred Labor Attorneys in the United States for 2007, as compiled by Labor Relations Institute, Inc., a leading industry information source.  According to LRI, inclusion on the list puts Wakefield in the top one percent of labor attorneys in the U.S., making Wakefield one of the most active attorneys representing companies in National Labor Relations Board-monitored elections.  Wakefield was selected from more than 8,600 attorneys evaluated by Labor Relations Institute.  The honor of “Top One Hundred” was determined by the number of NLRB elections in which each attorney provided representation and the success of those election outcomes.  “To be included in the Top One Hundred is a tremendous honor,” according to LRI President Donald P. Wilson.  “It acknowledges these attorneys’ professionalism
and long-term dedication to their clients.”

BRG&S received a defense verdict on behalf of Los Angeles Unified School District
June 2007

BRG&S received a defense verdict on behalf of Los Angeles Unified School District in a case where a former LAUSD employee who had retired from the district in June 2001, applied to return to the district in the position of high school Spanish teacher. Plaintiff contended that she was not hired for the position of high school Spanish teacher because over her age, over forty years old. LAUSD contended that Plaintiff was a Band Three teacher because of her experience and credentials, and that it was required by a consent decree to hire a Band One teacher for the position applied for by Plaintiff. The jury found 9-3 in favor of LAUSD that there was no age discrimination.

U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Ordered to Pay $1,022,653.69 in Attorneys? Fees and Expenses to a Pasadena Immigration Law Firm. Partner Linda Miller Savitt successfully defended at trial the law firm Robert L. Reeves & Associates against a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The EEOC sued the firm for sexual harassment and pregnancy discrimination. In a 17-page written ruling, U.S. District Judge Dickran Tevrizian found that the EEOC?s lawsuit ?was unreasonable, frivolous and without foundation.?

John J. Manier, a senior counsel with Ballard, Rosenberg, Golper & Savitt, prepared the briefs in support of Reeves? request for fees and expenses.
