Eric’s primary practice involves the defense of all types of employment-related lawsuits through inception, litigation, and trial. He also regularly provides counsel to employers regarding day-to-day personnel management decisions, complaint investigations, best policies and practices, and compliance with state and federal law. He is also highly versed in e-discovery related issues, having been a significant contributor in the drafting of the 2009 California Electronic Discovery Act.

Eric represents employers ranging from large, nationwide corporations to those with only a few employees. He focuses on matters involving the Fair Employment and Housing Act, whistleblower retaliation, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour violations, and all related claims for private employers and public entities before governmental agencies and in state and federal court. His trial experience includes:

  • Represented a large law firm in defending disability/medical condition discrimination and wrongful termination claims to jury verdict;
  • Represented a local public entity in defending Education Code whistleblower retaliation claims to defense verdict;
  • Represented a large healthcare provider in defending race discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful termination claims (settled after opening statement);
  • Represented a local television station in defending age discrimination, wrongful termination, and retaliation claims to defense verdict (arbitration); and
  • Represented a chain of free clinics in defending retaliation, whistleblower, and disability discrimination claims (settled mid-trial due to insurer bankruptcy).
